Nahum 1:1-3

 

1. God Warns

 

               The LORD is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD is avenging and            wrathful; the LORD takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for     his enemies

 

               Nahum parades God’s attributes but why is he selective?

 

               Where is the love?

                             Jonah 4:1-2

                              2 Kings 18:32-35 –

 

2. God Weighs

 

               “the LORD is great in power

 

               God can… Nahum 1:4-6                 Job 9:4

                             

               God must…..                      and will by no means clear the guilty.’

 

               How guilty is Ninevah?   

                             

               Violence – 3:1-3, Deceit – 3:1 Plunder   - 2:9 Witchcraft – 3:4                                         Worst Sin –1:11

 

                              God will – “”and will by no means clear the guilty.’”

 

                              Don’t forget Is 10:5-11

 

3. God Waits

 

               Why? – Perhaps he is…

               it is precisely because He is…                      The LORD is slow to anger

               Why

                              To shut the mouthes of

                              To shut the mouth of the                                               Gen 15:16                           To open the mouths of the                                                   2 Peter 3:9

              

               What Ninavah is taunting you…

 

               What Ninevah do you not want to see delivered –

 

               Are you bidding your time waiting             

 

               Are you hoping the scales will tip in your favor
