LIVING HOPE OPC ORDER OF WORSHIP

for Sunday, September 29th, 2024 at 10:45 AM

Opening Song – NTH 302 – Come, Christians, Join to Sing

Gospel Greeting – To the church . . . in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace.   1 Thess. 1:1

Call to Worship Song – NTH 734 – Gloria Patri

Call to Worship – Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.         Ps. 107:1-3

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Hymn of Praise – NTH 296 – All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name

Reading of the Law – Galatians 3:10-12

(Silent Confession of Sin)

General Confession of Sin – Almighty God, we confess we have broken your commandments. We have sinned by selfishness, worldliness, unbelief and pride. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves, and we have not walked humbly with you. Forgive us our sins and blot out our debts according to your tender mercies, according to your loving kindness. Cleanse us by the blood of Jesus your Son. Give us a humble and contrite heart that we might forgive others as you have forgiven us. We ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon – Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.           Gal. 3:13-14

Exhortation to Give – Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.  Philippians 4:17-20

Collection with Prayer (Offertory: NTH 353 – I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord)

Doxology – NTH 732

Scripture Readings – OT Lesson: Genesis 14:17-24 / NT Lesson: Hebrews 7:1-10

Prayer for Illumination

Sermon – An Exposition of Hebrews 7:1-10: “Melchizedek: Man of Messianic Mystery”

God introduces Abraham to Melchizedek, a mysterious foreshadowing of the Messiah.

  1. He foreshadows the eternal Priest-King, Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 7:1-3)
    1. Christ is our eternal King of Righteousness and King of Peace.
  2. He foreshadows the superior mediation of Christ. (Hebrews 7:4-10)
    1. Christ mediates our grateful gifts to God and God’s blessing to us.

Prayer of Application

Hymn of Response – NTH 306 – Jesus, My Great High Priest

Benediction – The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. – 2 Corinthians 13:14
