How to Use God’s HMO

James 5:14-15  Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15  And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

  1. The Paradoxes That Are So Confusing

  1. That while directions James gives seem so clear, the church as a whole tends to ignore them.

  1. The Effect produced? It again is so uncomplicated…the Lord WILL raise him up!

  1. The Positions That Are So Conflicting

  1. That they find expression in extreme unction.
  2. That they are the basis for divine healing ministries.
  3. That they were intended for the apostolic age and are no longer relevant
  4. That this is the only divine prescription for healing
  5. That no Christian need ever be ill, there is healing in the atonement.

  1. The Principles That Are So Convincing

  1. The complaint - “Is any one of you sick?”
  2. The Call - “He should call the Elders of the church”
  3. The Command - “to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord”
  4. The Consequences - “And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well, the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven”

  1. The  Conditions

“in the name of the Lord”

James 5:10

Deuteronomy 18:

                              “the prayer offered in faith”

Romans 14:23

In approaching this question of prayer and healing, it must be subject to the biblical laws that govern the whole question of prayer

1 John 5:14

To be successful, prayer must be according to God’s will

What am I to do when I am sick?
