LIVING HOPE OPC ORDER OF WORSHIP -7/26/2020

Prelude

Announcements

Gospel Greeting – Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship Song – NTH 1 – All People That on Earth Do Dwell

Call to Worship – “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Opening Hymn – O Church Arise (CCLI#4611992 – Key of D)

Reading of Law – Romans 3:9-20

Confession of Sin

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon – But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Romans 3:21-24

Confession of Faith (Heidelberg Catechism, Q&A 60)

Leader: Christian, how are you righteous before God?

Congregation: Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments, of never having kept any of them, and of still being inclined to all evil, nevertheless, without any merit of my own, out of sheer grace, God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I had never sinned nor been a sinner, and as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me – if only I accept this gift with a believing heart.

Exhortation to Give – …Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” Acts 20:35b

Doxology – NTH 732 (Skipping 731 this week as it is the same tune as NTH 1)

Prayer for Collection & Pastoral Prayer

Scripture Readings – OT: 2 Samuel 7:1-17 / NT: John 1:35-42

Medley

– NTH 561 – Lord, Speak to Me That I May Speak

– Speak O Lord

Prayer for Illumination

Sermon – An Exposition of John 1:35-42: “Faithful Witnesses of Christ”

Jesus’ grace compels those who know Him to bring others to Him:

  1. A faithful witness repeatedly points to Jesus as the Lamb of God. (John 1:35-37)
  2. A faithful witness is one who abides with and learns from Jesus. (John 1:38-39)
  3. A faithful witness brings others to learn from Christ, and to be changed by Him (John 1:40-42)

Prayer of Application

Closing Song – NTH 311 – Hail to the Lord’s Anointed

Benediction – The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
