#6 – King - What a Ruler Should Be

1 Samuel 8:7  And the LORD said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.  

 

God is King Over All and All Must Give Him and His Kings the Honor and Obedience that is Due

 

  1. The Name “King” As God’s Title Has a Very Distinct Meaning When Applied to God

 

     Melek –  

               1st King was -  Genesis 10:8-10

               4 Kings - Gen 14 –  

 

  1. God As King Is the Standard of What Kings Should Be

 

  1. According to Bible God is THE King in two distinct ways.

               Ps 47:7

                Ps 89:18

 

  1. How did Israel get a King?                   1 Samuel 1-9

 

  1. Israel’s Kings were to be different for other Kings

 

               They were to remember that God was the 

               The human Kings were merely God’s 

                                              Deut 17:15

                                               Deut 17:18-20 

 

III. God Is Our King Today and Rules through His Kings Whom He Raises Up

 

     God is our real King  - 1 Tim 1:17

 

     God choses our  “kings” –

               Our Divine King – Phil 2:9

               Our Earthly :kings” – Rom 13:1

 

      We are to accept these Kings and give them the honor and obedience God requires

 

  1. Chirst’s commands - Gal 6:2   

 

  1. The Gov’s commands unless they violate Christ’s Law

 

But doesn’t calling our God our King make him a dictator who we are afraid to approach

 

               The place of the Lord’s Prayer and the Lord’s supper
